Expert Take on Oral Arguments Before SCOTUS in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen

November 4, 2021

Yesterday, the United States Supreme Court heard arguments in what portends to be a landmark case with respect rights endowed by the Second Amendment.  After the arguments were rendered, some experts opined that given the questions posed by SCOTUS justices, the arguments proffered in response, and the conservative tilt of SCOTUS, itself, the New York laws currently restricting gun carry rights will be struck down in the decision that is expected to be rendered sometime next year.  However, some experts believe the holding of SCOTUS will be narrow, limiting the effect of the holding specifically to New York law and not to other states where similar gun carry restrictions prevail.
